Interaction with guests

We both enjoy meeting our guests in person when you first arrive. We will be upstairs and available most of the time during your stay but if we have to leave we will be reachable by cell phone. In our absence our co-hosts (who are longtime locals) will come to greet you and answer any questions about the area. You can set the tone for how much visiting takes place but getting to know our guests a little is a highlight of welcoming you into our home. Please ask if you have questions or concerns.

The neighborhood is a quiet rural residential neighborhood so please keep noise to a minimum, especially after 10:00 pm. On weekends some neighbors might be taking care of yard work so you occasionally hear chain saws or blowers. On Friday nights during football season we can hear the High School home games from a distance.

The full first floor of the house (excluding the garage) will be your private space with a large shaded outdoor patio with BBQ and misters. The property is on a hillside that has steep sections and wild animals, so we request that you keep your family safe by refraining from walking around the property.

We have recently installed an August Smart Lock. You will receive an invite to install the August App on your smart phone to use to lock and unlock the door during your stay. You will also be able to use the last four digits of your phone number on the keypad.

Detailed description of the space

This private apartment is below the owner’s main house on a hillside with views of the trees above Oakhurst. There are 2 private bedrooms with one queen bed each and cozy electric heater wall ‘fireplaces’ for individual climate control. During the warmer seasons the main house air-conditioner is controlled by the owners upstairs but can be adjusted on request via text or phone calls. The fireplace heaters can be used to temper cold air in any season.

The living/dining area has a full size sofa, 40″ Smart TV, full size dining table and kitchenette (sink, small refrigerator, toaster oven, coffee maker and microwave). There is a BBQ on the patio with propane provided. Enjoy outdoor dining on the picnic table.

The full bathroom has a tub/shower combination between the two bedrooms. There is a separate external entrance and parking near the shaded patio. The access to the garage and inner stairwell to the rest of the house upstairs, will be locked from the outside.

Our mountain country apartment is the perfect place to retreat, relax and enjoy nature, work on writing or painting and use as a home base to explore the surrounding area. It’s common to see deer walking around the 2 1/2 acres filled with a variety of trees. Our place is an 8 minute drive to the shops and restaurants of Oakhurst and about 15 minute drive from Bass Lake. Yosemite’s South Gate entrance is about a 30 minute drive and approximately 1 1/2 hours to the valley floor of this renowned National Park.

We are a husband and wife team with experience in photography and art (acrylic and watercolor painting primarily) so our “work from home” is very quiet and not disruptive.

You will need a car to get around in this area. Some roads can be curvy so plan accordingly. You should be able to use your map app on your phone to find our address. Our house number has a light but the house cannot be seen from the street until you are coming down the driveway.

You will make a pretty sharp left turn after a tree and then need to drive slowly and carefully through the steeper areas to the bottom of the hill and park to the left of the vintage Shasta travel trailer, (Airbnb parking spot will be marked). It is a one way driveway so please let us know your approximate arrival time so that we don’t drive up while you are driving down.

Other notes:

Water quality: We have a high end, whole house water purification system which we regularly have serviced and tested. You can be confident that our water is completely safe for drinking, bathing and cooking. Also, we have a tankless water heater so your entire group will have ample hot water for baths and showers.

During Winter (and early Spring) months, check weather and road conditions before booking and again 2-3 days before departure. Yosemite requires you to carry tire chains during winter/spring visits, even if you have all wheel drive vehicles. Our driveway is steep and may be difficult to manage in snowy or icy conditions. All wheel drive cars are recommended. But in severe weather you may need to cancel and find another accommodation.

No Smoking inside or outside on our property (of any smoking products except odorless vaping). The risk of forest fire is very high in our area so please exercise extreme caution with the BBQ grill and respect the ‘no smoking’, ‘no fireworks’ and ‘no outdoor campfire’ policies.

We made every attempt to make the house safe for children but it is your responsibility to watch them. Some sections of the property are steep and there are wild animals that should not be approached. It is also important that you do not try to feed them. There might be poisonous plants in the brush as well.

It is very important that you do not leave minors unattended in the house.

Surveillance cameras: to ensure safety for our family and our guests, we have installed surveillance cameras on the property. They detect motion and record video if they “see” anything. Of course there is no surveillance in any of the interior spaces and no audio is recorded near your space. If you have any privacy concerns, we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
